Pat AptThough a native New Englander, Pat Apt has spent long periods of time living and working in other areas. For the last three years, she has maintained her studio in Ajijic, Mexico, a charming artist colony on the shores of Lake Chapala. There, she paints in oils, most often small, and creates etchings and linoleum cuts. The work is almost always figurative and playful although there is an undertone of seriousness and a strong interest in the archetypes that link all of humanity. A question of whether the future can approach the perfection of a distant mythical past, a question of who a person really is beneath the appearance, a question of relationships between objects and persons and shadows and reflections. And always there is color, which is "Poetry in itself". |
